Bewegende wallpapers, een dienst waarmee je door iemands kleren heen kunt kijken of rare ringtones. De sms-diensten die op tv worden aangeboden kunnen niet gek genoeg zijn. ‘Wie wil zoiets nou hebben?’ vraag je je iedere keer weer af en toch heeft een op de vier kinderen tussen de 8 en 18 jaar wel eens aan zo’n sms-dienst vastgezeten.
Hoeveel geld er ongewild van de rekening verdwijnt verschilt van tien tot 250 euro, blijkt uit onderzoek van Mijn Kind Online. De helft van de jongeren is sowieso tien euro kwijt, 32 procent is tussen de tien en dertig euro kwijt, acht procent tussen de dertig en vijftig euro en eveneens acht procent tussen de vijftig en honderd euro.
Het blijkt dat vooral vmbo-leerlingen het slachtoffer worden van de sms-diensten. Al jaren worden er reclames uitgezonden waar jongeren via een sms’je op kunnen reageren. Zo ontvangen zij de leuke ringtone of wallpaper maar zitten ze ook meteen vast aan een duur abonnement. Ook de Reclame Code Commissie vindt de reclames te misleidend. Zelfs na aanpassingen in de reclamecode blijven de problemen aanhouden.
Voor ouders is het een goede les om hun kinderen in te lichten over dit soort misleidende reclames. Het onderzoek toonde namelijk ook aan dat gewaarschuwde jeugd minder snel per ongeluk een sms-abonnement afsluit.

Prima dat er weer eens actie wordt ondernomen. Er zijn echter meer partijen in dit spel die er belang bij hebben om het maar lekker zo te laten.
